Design and Technology

At Catshill First School and Nursery we are designers!

We encourage the children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems considering opportunities as well as their own and others’ needs. Our D&T curriculum encourages children to become independent, creative problem solvers and thinkers both as individuals and as part of a team.

As part of their work with food, pupils are taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. Instilling a love of cooking in pupils will also open a door to one of the great expressions of human creativity. Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables pupils to feed themselves and others affordably and well, now and in later life.

In line with one of our federation core values – aspiration – we aim to develop possibilities for all! We want children to have no limits to what their ambitions are, aspiring to be:

  • Product Designers,
  • Architects,
  • Chefs,
  • Carpenters,
  • Automotive Designers,
  • Fashion Technologists,
  • Industrial Engineers….and so much more!
