Autumn Term Attendance newsletter

Attendance and Punctuality

We encourage the highest possible levels of attendance and punctuality for pupils within our school. We provide pupils with an educationally safe and secure environment, expecting to see them every day, which supports pupils’ learning and development. Pupils should aim to attend school every day that schools are open. We aspire for all pupils to attain 100% attendance with the expectation that all pupils will achieve our target of at least 97%.

A big thank you to all our families who take attendance and punctuality seriously. We are really grateful to you for getting your child in on time so that they can learn as much as they possibly can.

Our target for the Federation’s attendance is 97%.

In the morning at Catshill First School, the doors open at 8.45am and children can arrive up until 8.55am when the register is taken.

The children start learning in class from the moment they walk in.

Every child has the right to attend school every day. Casual attendance and frequent absence really has a detrimental effect on children’s education and emotional development.

We want our schools to have the best attendance and punctuality, so that our children can learn as much as they possibly can.

Across the Federation, everyone has their part to play in ensuring that all children attend regularly.

We can achieve this together:

Parent / Carer roles:

Leave of absence during term time is not a parental right.  If there are special or exceptional circumstances, please complete our absence request form and the Headteacher will make a decision if the absence can be authorised or not.

Please have a read through our attendance booklet for more information and how we can help.

The Federation’s responsibilities:

We will inform parents/carers every half term of their child’s attendance using the traffic light system and  their responsibilities for maintaining regular attendance for their child.

  • We aim to support any family in difficulties or crisis.
  • We will refer families requiring support by inviting them into school to discuss this concern with the Attendance Officer and/or Head of School/Headteacher, in the hope of resolving the problem .
  • We will actively seek Court Prosecution when needed, but we do this as a very last resort.
  • We value and reward good and improved attendance

Research shows that the closer a school and family work together the more likely a child will succeed.
