Our Curriculum
At Catshill First School and Nursery, our curriculum is built around three simple but powerful ideas: self-belief, kindness, and aspiration. These values guide everything we do — from the way we interact with each other, to the way we build dreams and celebrate success.
We believe that every child deserves an education that helps them discover who they are, what they’re capable of, and how they can make a positive difference in the world. Our curriculum is designed to nurture confident, compassionate learners who believe in themselves and their ability to achieve great things.

Our Curriculum Gives Pupils
- Self-BeliefWe want every child to leave Catshill First School knowing that they can succeed. Through our carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils build knowledge and skills incrementally, experiencing success at every stage. We celebrate effort, progress and achievement, helping children develop resilience and a growth mindset that will serve them throughout their lives.
- KindnessOur curriculum teaches children not just academic knowledge, but how to be good people. We enjoy being part of a community, and our pupils learn the importance of respect, empathy and supporting one another. Through collaborative learning, our active learning experiences, and our strong links with our federated middle school, children understand that we achieve more when we work together.
- AspirationWe open doors to possibilities. Our broad and balanced curriculum introduces children to new experiences, cultures, and ways of thinking. We help them dream big and show them the pathways to turn those dreams into reality. Whether through our outdoor learning in our forest school area or through enriching experiences across all subjects, we inspire children to reach for their goals.
Our curriculum comes alive through:
- Rich, hands-on experiences that make learning memorable and meaningful
- Our forest school and outdoor provision, which connects children with nature and develops independence, problem-solving and teamwork
- Strong community links, including our partnership with our Catshill Middle Schooll, ensuring smooth transitions and continuity in learning
- Celebration of success at every level, recognising that every child’s journey is unique and valuable
- A welcoming, inclusive environment where every child feels they belong and can thrive
Our curriculum is personalised to our school and covers all statutory requirements, while being ambitious in breadth and depth. We ensure that:
- All pupils access high-quality teaching across all subjects, with lessons carefully planned and sequenced to build knowledge over time
- Reading, writing and mathematics are prioritised as essential foundations for all learning
- Every subject is valued and taught with rigour and enthusiasm
- Pupils with SEND and those who may face barriers to learning receive tailored support to help them succeed
- Our three core values are woven throughout every aspect of school life, not just taught in isolation
We monitor pupils’ progress carefully to ensure that:
- Every child is building on what they already know and can do
- Gaps in knowledge are identified and addressed quickly
- Pupils are developing the knowledge, skills and characteristics they need for their next steps
- Our curriculum is having the intended impact on all learners
At Catshill First School & Nursery, we are committed to ensuring that every single child, regardless of their starting point or background, has access to an excellent education. We consider the needs of every pupil in our curriculum design and delivery, making adaptations where necessary to ensure all children can achieve and thrive.
Through self-belief, kindness and aspiration, we are building foundations that will last a lifetime.
